When did Saint Louis become part of the United States?

St. Louis became part of the United States as a result of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The purchase, which was negotiated by then-President Thomas Jefferson, included the acquisition of the vast Louisiana Territory from France. St. Louis, which was founded by French fur traders in 1764, was designated as part of the newly acquired American territory.
